Welcome to September’s round up!

September is a month to tidy gardens, remember the summer and slowly drift into autumn here in the UK as the weather starts to change. One of the things I love most is the sound of robins singing this time of year – there are a particular herald on a misty morning as they mark out their territory for the upcoming cold months.
However, I just wanted to show off our Peak District moors – they are at their best in August when the heather is out. Just look at this blaze of colour at the end of summer!

Well, as promised, I did finish my stone-themed stitch pots. They are all in my cupboard with their other one hundred friends and I don’t yet feel I’m done with them so I’m sure there will be a few more sets when inspiration hits.

I think of each (container) as a holding place. I like the wordplay this describes. The container can be either for holding a sense of place, where materials and processes define the environment I am evoking; or the container literally holds place as I put found objects inside it.

I’ve also been part of our local art exhibition and stewarding a couple of mornings. This is the first year I’ve been with Huddersfield Art Society and I’m starting to settle into painting and enjoying the influence that has on textiles and vice versa. I was delighted that ‘Adagio’ (see previous post) was selected as the choice of entries for First Time Exhibitor. There are so many beautiful and different works on show until the end of September – I’m hoping to post a link to the exhibition on-line in due course.

And I’ve been teaching at Eaubrink Studio in Norfolk. Anita is a lovely host and has a wonderful and spacious studio to say nothing of the home baking goodies! We had a busy weekend together printing from nature (feather, plants, bark etc) and layering these up to stitch into. You can see work in progress from the group on the Facebook pages of either Eaubrink Studio or myself.

And finally, I will leave you with a couple of our textile and smoke-fired pots from an on-going collaboration with Martine Becquet.

I’m so moved by your be art. . . they each feel like little beings. I want to hold them, look at them all day. Thank you!
Ooh thank you so much!
