Feathers and figures

I’ve been trying some little bits towards a piece I’d like to do. I’ve always steered clear of trying anything that’s supposed to look like a human, but having studied Dan McCaw and his simple figures, I’ve finally done something that suggests a person!
I want to do something about wings and found that I could use bits of papers and fabric to suggest wings within the figure.

Using an art package has helped play with ideas using the samples and I’ve also tried some stitches for the first time. Looking forward to taking these bits on with whatever emerges next from Experimental Textiles!

This one was done using some roller prints on Procion washed paper, then scrunched tissue paper was sewn onto the figure which was also printed with a string print block. It was torn away on the stitch line with further machine stitching.
